Chinese Elm is one of the most popular trees for bonsai and one of the recommend starter species for beginners. It's easy to grow and can be trained into any style bonsai. This species is native to Japan, Korea, and China. It is considered a semi-deciduous species meaning depending on the growing conditions it may or may not shed leaves in winter. This tree can also be grown outdoors very successfully as it tolerates wide temperature variations.
